Freeman Regional Health Services (FRHS) is pleased to welcome Mara Fiegen, PA-C, to its provider team. A Freeman native, Fiegen is excited to build her career in her hometown and provide quality healthcare to the community where she grew up.

Fiegen graduated from Freeman High School in 2020. Her interest in healthcare began early, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Oakview Terrace during high school and summer breaks while pursuing a degree in Human Biology at South Dakota State University. She later continued her education at the University of South Dakota, earning her Physician Assistant degree in 2026.

During her PA training, Fiegen completed two clinical rotations in Freeman, where she developed an even greater appreciation for the variety of rural healthcare and the opportunity to care for people she knows personally. Those experiences reinforced her desire to practice in her hometown and serve the community that helped shape her.

“Growing our own healthcare workforce is so important, especially as rural communities work to address healthcare staffing shortages,” said Courtney Unruh, CEO of Freeman Regional Health Services. “Mara’s journey is exactly the kind of story we’re proud to celebrate. We’re grateful she has chosen to build her career here at home. Investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals helps strengthen the future of healthcare for our entire community.”

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to provide quality healthcare to my community,” said Fiegen. “I loved the variety of rural healthcare and the connections you build with patients. I’m excited to be part of the FRHS team and look forward to seeing familiar faces!”

Fiegen and her husband, Jackson, who teaches at Freeman Elementary School, have been married for three years. They welcomed their son, Brooks, in February 2026.

Outside of work, Fiegen enjoys spending time with family and friends, going for walks, and grabbing an iced coffee.

Freeman Regional Health Services is proud to have Fiegen as part of its team and looks forward to the care and connections she will bring to patients and families throughout the community.
